August Check-In / September Plans 2021

(from Cal Fire map)

I never thought I would have to be so aware of the Air Quality Index (AQI) as I have been this year. Right now, there are 2 huge fires burning nearby. I feel for those that have been evacuated and lost their houses.

I was really hoping to get out paddle boarding more this summer. And if I made the effort, I could probably head elsewhere to do so. It’s just so nice to have a couple of lakes nearby. But I’m not going to go breath bad air. And I definitely don’t feel like putting on a mask just to do so. Guess with all this sadness going on, it has made me lethargic. Takes effort to get out of just the work and being home routine.

That is why I do keep coming back to this blog and my lists. I look at them to get myself inspired to get out and do stuff. And I know it would be a good to focus on other stuff then what I cannot do for the world. Little things do matter.

I went to dinner at a local favorite to get their peach milkshake, while still in season. The burger was basic but good, and that milkshake had me asking myself why I waited so long. I’m going to have to go back each season to try their other ones.

I got to try a whiskey at home tasting. I wrote about that experience.

Baseball finally got to play their Field of Dreams Game. The Yankees and White Sox wore vintage uniforms and were in Dyersville, Iowa. The first Major League game played in Iowa. Which reminded me, I still have to watch the movie. I will be renting it soon.

Did get out with friends and hung out at a winery. Sipping wine, listening to music, and catching up. I didn’t even realize how much a chill night out was needed.

Tried Detroit style pizza for the first time. I recently wrote about that experience.

Got myself and adventure book, where you scratch off items to find out the challenge. This has inspired me to do some journaling again of my past adventures and experiences. And to force myself out of this not want to do anything rut.

I’m working on my fall season list of things to do. Also a food and drink list of all things pumpkin and apple to try.

What’s something you are looking forward to doing in September? Or the Fall season in general? Any suggestions on pumpkin or apple food and drinks to try?

General Things Done this Past Month:

Breweries, Cocktails, & Wineries: See posts over at “My Drinktopia”

Current Book Challenge: “1001 Books to Read Before you Die”

  • Still reading = Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray

Current Movie Challenge: “1001 Movies to Watch Before you Die”

(2018 edition) In looking at all the movies, I’ve come to the realization that there are movies (like some dramas, horror & foreign) that I have absolutely no interest in watching. Which means I need to learn to be okay with knowing I will not completely watch all movies on the list. There are movies that were on previous lists that I will watch, so maybe I’ll still get to 1001.

  • none

Current Music Challenge: “1001 Songs to Hear Before You Die”.

Trying to post on Mondays and listen to 20 songs each week.

I’m always open to suggestions for any of these categories. Continuously adding to my list of things to do.
